Applying for Pension Credit over the telephone is a quick way to access a much needed benefit that many low income UK pensioners are entitled to. Read on to learn more about what information you need to supply to an adviser if you choose to apply for Pension Credit over the telephone.
Pension Service Number
The Pension Service lines are open from 8:00.a.m. to 8:00.p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9:00.a.m. to 1:00.p.m. on Saturdays. Call 0800 99 1234 or texphone at 0800 169 0133 to speak directly to an adviser about Pension Credit.
Before you call, you should know your National Insurance number and have information about your income, savings and investments, to see whether you actually qualify for Pension Credit. You should also have information about the bank account where you would like Pension Credit to be paid into if you are approved for Pension Credit. If you qualify for Pension Credit, an adviser will be able to provide you with more information about your benefit. Some low income pensioners who qualify for Pension Credit are also entitled to apply for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. If you fall into this category, you can apply for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit at the same time as you call to apply for Pension Credit. Talk to an adviser to find out if you qualify.
Help for non-English Speakers
If you are a non-English speaker, you can still apply for Pension Credit over the telephone. Call Freephone 0800 99 1234. An adviser and interpreter will call you back and help you to apply for Pension Credit. Lines are open the same hours for non-English speakers.
